In an interview with TV Line producer Greg Berlanti discussed the future of The Flash. Since last weeks debut of Gorilla Grodd rumors have been flying around about what is to come in the weeks ahead. Berlanti also answers questions about Barry achieving his full potential and gaining his full power. Both Arrow and The Flash are produced by Greg Berlanti and he shows his excitement for both shows when talking about the soon to come crossover. A real live hero team up on TV. Not since Smallville’s “Absolute Justice” have I been so ready to tune in.
The crossover episode will be broken into two parts. The first part being entitled “Flash vs. Arrow” and the second installment is dubbed “The Brave and The Bold.” In regards to the Scarlett Speedster and the Emerald Archer team up Berlanti has this to say. “They’re so hard to do. But I think they’ll be so rewarding for everybody, ultimately, that that’s our hope, for sure.”
Last weeks episode brought quite a few new things into the light. We all know Barry Allen is the fastest man alive and now we’ve finally seen him run on water and defy gravity by running up the side of a building. “We’re holding back on
some big ones still. He famously can phase through things. We haven’t seen him do that yet.” It sounds as though the writers and producers agree that Barry has only begun to touch the tip of his abilities. When asked about the possibility of time travel Berlanti said, “That is the one that we deal with directly in the winter. We, obviously, hint at it from the pilot episode. That is a big — “theme” is the wrong word for it — but that is a big part of the DNA of who The Flash was, so we do deal with that.”
Also in a big scene last week fans got their first glimpse at Gorilla Grodd. Could this just be a well placed nod to viewers or could this mean that Grodd is going to soon become a major character in The Flash? “I wouldn’t say teased. I would say we’re going to deal with it this year. The comparison I make is a little bit to Slade the first year on Arrow in the sense of we started with the mask in the pilot and then we saw which way we were going,” said Berlanti. He continued, “We’re going to have to get the technology right and all the stuff right to make it look and feel real. But a lot of times, we do this stuff not as a tease as much as a challenge to ourselves of, “Can we do it?” Grodd’s definitely one of those, so we hope we pull it off.”
It is evident The Flash is in caring hands and producers are going about this the right way. They have a plan and they are executing it piece by piece with impeccable timing. More and more recognizable villains are showing up and soon it looks like the Rogues will have a full roster. Even Cupid will making her debut on Arrow in the near future.
