The holy grail of comic books has done it again! A copy of Action Comics No 1, the first appearance of Superman has been sold for a little over $3.2 million, making it the highest price ever paid for a comic book. Just to think, the book sold for 10 cents back in June of 1938.

This copy of Action Comics was graded at “9.0” out of 10 by Certified Guaranty Company (CGC), an independent authority that grades comics book. It has been said that there are about 50 to 100 copies of this comic still in existence, but only two including this specific book have been graded 9.0.

Action Comics has been sold before breaking record sales each time: $86,000 in 1992, $150,000 in 1997, and $1.5m in 2010. The second most valuable book and sought after is Detective Comics No 27, the first appearance of Batman.

Darren Adams, who owns Pristine Comics shop near Seattle, was the owner of the comic book. He made a deal with eBay, whom held the public auction, to make 1% of the sale to be donated to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation for spinal cord injury and paralysis research. 13 bidders went back and forth for this much sought after comic book, with the final price of $3,207,852 winning the comic.
