It’s been 75 years since the Caped Crusader made his entrance into the world and DC Comics is coining Wednesday, July 23rd, as “Batman Day”. Created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger 75 years ago, DC Comics is really taking strides to celebrate the day by giving out freebies in participating New York comic shops this Wednesday.
The main freebie is going to be a free copy of a special edition of Detective Comics #27. This issue is not a reprint of the original issue but rather a modern retelling of the 1939 origin story. The story will be retold by best-selling author Brad Meltzer. On the topic, Meltzer had this to say:
“Batman will never win the fight he’s fighting. He’ll never stop crime. But he’ll also never give up in the battle. It’s his best real-life lesson: we should never, ever, ever, ever stop fighting for what we believe in.”
- Brad Meltzer to New York Daily News
In addition to the comic there will also be Batman masks, capes and bookmarks for the younger Bat-fans (or the young at heart). Unfortunately though, utility belts are not included. I’ll take a mask please!
