Warner Bros. recently released its full schedule for Comic-Con International 2014, in which they have a lot going on, including a full slate set for Sunday, which also happens to be Kid’s Day.
Sunday will include a “Batman for All Seasons” panel, discussing the different versions of Batman over the years, including the animated iterations.
The panel description, though, is what has us wondering. Specifically this line… “Attendees who stick around to the end will be privy to a special WAC announcement that will excite fans both “Young” and old.”
With “Young” being both capitalized and in quotation marks, could this mean that their announcement could be a return of the short-lived, yet beloved animated series, Young Justice?
Young Justice was an animated series based around the younger superheroes such as Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, and Superboy. It’s first two episodes premiered in November 2010, but the series didn’t actually begin until January 2011. It was shown in sporadic blocks until April 2013, which is one of the main reasons I believe it ended up getting cancelled.
Cancelled after its second season, retitled Young Justice: Invasion, which was set five years after the first season, the series has gained almost cult popularity, and the first instinct after reading something like this is that WB might actually be finally bringing the series back to television.
However, the announcement is supposed to be coming from WAC (Warner Archive Collection). This would likely suggest that if it is Young Justice-related, that it’s most likely an announcement about a full DVD collection. The first season is available on DVD in four parts and the second season has yet to come out. So, a full DVD box set would be a great announcement to make.
No matter what the announcement may be, it’s sure to excite fans, and those of us who desperately want to see the return of Young Justice can still hold out on the hope that this just might be the time for it.
