What to expect from the Forever People

This month will see premiere of “Infinity Man and the Forever People,” written by the dynamic duo of Dan DiDio and Keith Giffen. Let’s do a little history lesson.

Back in the day, Jack Kirby created a story line within the series’ THE FOREVER PEOPLE, MISTER MIRABLE and THE NEW GOD’s. The story came to Kirby while he was working at Marvel creating “Tales of Asgard’. His idea was to put two worlds at war, to planets with a similar background but different foundations. That was the idea that gave life to New Genesis and Apokolips.

Jack Kirby gave life to characters like Darkseid, Mister Miracle and Orion. Those characters have been a part of landmark story issues throughout DC history. A prime example being FINAL CRISES.

But enough of that. Together Didio and Giffen are revisiting the characters in the new series INFINITY MAN AND THE FOREVER PEOPLE. The synopsis of the first issue read’s as follows, provided by DC Comics:

“Four of the best students from New Genesis arrive on Earth to study and aid in the advancement of humanity – but they soon discover a darker purpose to their mission: a threat so great that it may bring the multiverse itself to its knees! The only thing that stands between them and total destruction is the mysterious entity known as the Infinity Man!”

These are characters that have exhilarated fans for years. In an interview with USA TODAY, Didio stated that he felt as though “THE FOREVER PEOPLE
was the most overlooked” of the trio listed above.

“They’re younger and they should have a different point of view from the other New Gods we’re seeing. I’m having a lot of fun with really taking a younger perspective in the New Gods mythology and really trying to build on that in the new series.”

The new direction this series is going in, much like THE MOVEMENT is set around a younger set of characters, a probable tactic in order to garner younger readers. It has also been revealed, that compared to other series’ the foursome will land in Venice Beach, CA as they take up their roles to help humanity advance…for all the wrong reasons. They’re teenagers, what do they know?

INFINITY MAN AND THE FOREVER PEOPLE #1 is scheduled for release this Wednesday, 11 June 2014.
