The final chapter of The Outsiders War unfolds beautifully before us in this week’s Green Arrow. Writer Jeff Lemire and artist Andrea Sorrentino once again complement each other perfectly and deliver a fantastic finish to an already amazing arc. This is a must grab issue for any fan of Oliver Queen and his crazy cast of co-stars. While this issue mainly deals with the ramifications of last issue, we are also given a glimpse of what’s to come.
Positives
As kids we’re told never to judge a book by its cover, but in the case of Green Arrow it’s hard to resist. Each chapter of the Outsiders war has had a beautiful cover crafted for it that showcases each clan’s leader in a monochromatic setting. Artist Andrea Sorrentino and colorist Marcelo Maiolo once again outdo themselves with a cover that displays the arrow clan using (you guessed it) various shades of green. Their covers have been some of the most creative in the New 52 as of late, only to be rivaled by Francis Manapul’s work on Detective comics.
The cover isn’t the only pretty picture we see however. While the whole issue itself looks fantastic, the double page spread in the issue really steals the show. Once again with green as the primary color, Sorrentino delivers us an incredibly detailed image as Oliver as he finally grabs the totem arrow.
Negatives
Overall there is very little to complain about in this issue. Lemire does a wonderful job of wrapping up the story and there’s plenty of action to keep the reader interested throughout the entire issue.
Verdict
Overall this was an excellent ending to a stupendous story-arc. Both writer Jeff Lemire, and artist Andrea Sorrentino bring their A game to this issue, and deliver an emotional detailed story. I’m also a huge fan of epilogues that tease things to come in the next arc, so if you’re anything like me than this issue won’t disappoint.
