According to the hollywoodreporter, the ‘Man of Steel’ sequel has found its Cyborg. The actor’s name is Ray Fisher whose most famous role is as Muhammad Ali in the New York play Fetch Clay.
It’s unconfirmed how large his role may be now, but apparently it may only be one scene if this quote is any indication “Warners quietly added the character to its casting call several months ago, when it began looking for a physically fit black actor. The part at the time called for only one scene but promised more in terms of future movies.”
This adds Cyborg to the list of other DC heroes, and fellow Justice League members, confirmed for the film. Just last year Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck were locked in as Wonder Woman and Batman respectively.
Victor Stone, or Cyborg as he’s more known, is a heavy hitter on the comics side of DC, first appearing in 1980. He went one to become a very integral part of the Teen Titans and their various incarnations. When the DC Universe ‘rebooted’ Cyborg became a member of the Justice League. This put the character to new heights, partnering him with icons like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.
Cyborg, has also appeared in media outside of the funny books. His first televised appearance was in the Superfriends: Galactic Guardians in the 1980s. The most prominent showcase, and the one that brought him into the eyes of several non-comic fans, was the Teen Titans cartoon. (A show that still survives today, in a manner of speaking, as Teen Titans Go!) In the show, he and his teammates/friends (Robin, Starfire, Raven & Beast Boy) fight the bad guys, play video games, and eat a pizza every now and then.
The media appearances don’t stop there! He’s also popped up in a few of the DC Animated Films most notably, Justice League: War. In it, Cyborg joins the other members of the soon-to-be Justice League in battling off the forces of Darkseid.
Just last year the cybernetically enhanced former footballer appeared in the popular video game Injustice: Gods Among Us as a playable character. He’s also in the MMO DC Universe Online, acting as a sort of “mentor” for players.
The sequel to ‘Man of Steel’ is still set to premiere on May 6, 2016.
