The wait is over. Fans have been talking since this was announced about the Scott Snyder and Sean Murphy 10 issue mini-series The Wake for Vertigo. Scott Snyder has been a major force behind the New 52 success with his run of Swamp Thing thru Issue #18, his current run with Greg Capullo in Batman, and the long awaited debut of Superman Unchained upcoming with Jim Lee. References of 2001: The Space Odyssey, The Thing, and Aliens movies are mentioned in the discussion of this mini-series:
John Carpenter’s The Thing and Ridley Scott’s Alien are part of the DNA in the first part of The Wake, according to Snyder. People are trapped in an unfamiliar environment with a creature that is tied to all the strange myths and folklore of the sea, and the horrifying revelation is both mysterious and awe-inspiring as it blossoms out to the rest of the world.
“It reminds me a bit of 2001: A Space Odyssey in how much it encompasses,” Murphy figures. “It starts millions of years ago and touches on points of history and goes past us into the future.
